The Voice...

A voice tells the story of a moment that changed life, forever...

Looking over the wall was a nightmare but falling into the sea, her end. Surrounded by sharks and her siblings was more than she could take.
A dark sky witnesses huge waves crash against the crumbling brickwork of the highest wall that she'd ever seen, and as her Siblings sink into darkness, beneath the black ocean, she frantically grabs for them, trying her hardest to raise them up out of the water, and to push them up the wall so that onlookers can save them. As the sharks bite into her brothers and sister, blood fills her mouth, when she looks into the terrified eyes of her family... She screams, petrified. She knows she will be next, but if anything happens to her, they will all perish.
But...

nothing happened in the sea that night, or any other night because this particular child was recounting the nightmare of being taken in the middle of the night, by child protection, and medical professionals.
Every night for the longest time, she woke in a sweat, crying, heartbroken because of the same recurring nightmare. A trauma that would stay with her till the end.
Believe it or not it will all work out.
How?
One day, you'll be the adult, you'll make the choices, and it'll be up to you to do what's right, for you and those around you...
She lost her family, so what did she want?... she wanted a family, it was important. With that in her heart she made one, she worked towards it and made it happen. It didn't happen overnight. she worked on herself, and got re-educated and worked towards her dream.

It took a long time. But, it did happen.

'We are not what happens to us. We are who we are despite what happens'.

PS.
Just to be clear, being brought into the care-system was the best thing that happened to her.

Forgiveness...

I will tell my story about what you did... it will emerge from a learned soul and penetrate even the coldest of hearts... you will see how your behaviour affected the innocent. It's my hope that you will understand and learn.

If you don't, it's because you don't want to.

They think there are no consequences, but they live and die under false illusions. I smile, I know different, there are always consequences and the passage of time will make no difference.

If you do it, live it, and know it's wrong, then you will bear those consequences.

So for now I will write my learning, I'll speak my truth, and share all I know so that the unforgivable, and all of our stories will mount, and your understanding will continue.

Whatever process you acquire, to learn, and understand when seeking out knowledge, or however you set your skills, values, and attitude... it must begin with a good heart, and for those of you who make the mistake of saying, but... I had a hard childhood, it happened to me, then my friend, you are the least excused, because you know more than most how it feels to be in that deep, dark, desperate hole...

If you read this and know you are guilty, then think and move forward in a way to work on yourself.  There's no excuse. The amount of information, the signposting to a better way, is visible in our invisible world.

To those of you who ignore it all, and to those who walk through life not challenging the behaviour of those who are guilty,  you, are just as bad if not worse by allowing others to be harmed, it's not acceptable, and it's definitely not acceptable to turn a blind eye.

They say it takes a village to raise a child... well let me tell you this, I came from a large family,  they all turned a blind eye, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and unbelievably, Grandparents ... they all contributed to the neglect, the abuse, the lies, and the horrendous life we had to live before a neighbour intervened... You think children don't want to leave abusive Parents/family/carers... think again, my life started when I was taken.

The stories, the messages, my thoughts will continue till I am no more... and my message to you out there, you who maybe suffering because of what you've been through... There is light, there is healing, sometimes there is no understanding but its not your fault, and you will learn to leave the blame where it belongs, even though right now you feel like you'll never be able to move on, trust me, you will.

Always remember that Forgiveness is for you, and helps you move on. In forgiving, it enables the bitterness to disappear from your life...

Lets all Be Kind...

I live for the moments I can put Magic into my words....

Whilst watching TV today, I was reminded of the Be Kind Campaign.

My heart went out to the mum's who'd lost their children to suicide, and how their deaths were due to being relentlessly bullied in school... by their peers.  Young people, who were just like them, and who continued to hurt these beautiful souls.

I was also bullied as a child,  and not just in school.  I would leave an abusive home and vomit on my way to school, because I was fearful of the constant barrage of abuse in all of my locations.

Physical, and mental.

I'm older now, and often wonder how I recovered...

Thankfully I was removed from the abuse, and it was said I survived because somehow I became resilient, and able to distance myself. I was one of the lucky ones, and healed. But, its super important for us all to be good role-models, and show our babies, and our young people that being kind, gentle, and compassionate, is the only way to be. It's also true that being kind is much better for us and our own well-being, than it is to be unkind, and nasty.

Do not be responsible for hurting hearts and souls, or for making others feel like they don't want to be here... we're all connected, we just need to remember that we really do rise when we lift others.

for those of us following the Be Kind Movement...

Be Kind was established in 2015 with the aim of celebrating and amplifying the power of kindness through education. Our passion lies in developing emotional intelligence (EQ) skills using the medium of film to influence, impact and embed 10 values of kindness in children and young people.

Her Darkness...

Image from Pinterest

To look, you wouldn’t think she had a dark mind. But she has…

Over the years, darkness had collected pockets of light and mercifully this was her salvation, her enlightenment, which usually turned out to be her get out of jail card. She always thought the journey would be filled with mist and overrun with negativity, but she was proved wrong when those pockets of light appeared. In each mysterious pocket, there lived a century of light, love, laughter and despite any darkness, there was a rich history. It turns out she had a billion topics to explore, a million journeys to live, with a thousand loves, to love.

She was luckier than most, and learned, not just from her own mistakes, she also learned from others. She deemed that responsible for the keys to her life, and she knew, those who touched her life were the locks that held her keys so snugly.

She used the dark for many things, her stories are endless... and I recall she told me several times that the dark can be scary, but I was to remember how it could also be comforting.

The Visitant...

Image from Pinterest
(A RE-Edit of a previous story)

Its Saturday afternoon and I'm having a moment away from my WIP... I'm creating and re-editing a previous story... This week the word count on my WIP is healthy but I've had to write a scene that's taken me almost a week, because I didn't want to kill anyone off... but, it was necessary to the story. Writer-Journal...

“I’m a real being, brought into this world by mistake.

Let me share a few secrets from a journey which smoldered, within two tortured souls… There was no once upon a time, no fairy-tale to look forward to. In reality, I didn’t have a home. The truth is that there was no belonging, no loyalty, no family support, just down and out substance abuse, and poverty.

A young couple, beaten by life, miserable, and seeking refuge, thought it would be a good idea to travel to Ireland, looking for support with their new baby girl. In a moment of madness, they use the last of their money to buy tickets to return to his much-loved Emerald Isle.

Hidden from sight, their tiny bundle is screwed up in a dirty blanket, and semi protected from the cold wind from the Irish sea. They make their way on an uncertain journey, towards their goal. Smoke billows above the young couple’s head as they share one cigarette after another, and when they start sharing alcohol too, their already confused minds decide that this is the perfect thing, and the only thing they can do.

The new father shoves his new-born infant further into his over sized, waterproof coat; he doesn’t want to lose his cargo, not when he’s made the right decision to protect his family. With a faraway look on his drunken face, mystically, he hears the panpipes of Celtic music, and remembers home.  Home is where they should be. His mother was a hard soul, but she would accept them, she had to.

Though the journey is long and arduous, it is nothing compared to the hysterical screams of abuse, which follow as he, his new wife, and tiny baby, are chased from his childhood home.

Wind and rain thrash madly about them, and equally matches the mood of his mother.

Breathing heavy, holding her hip, she chases them.

“You are not bloody welcome; things are hard enough here without another three mouths to feed” She screams.

In that heart-stopping moment, if you’d have held your breath and listened, you would have heard the distinct sound of fear in her voice. Tears, mixed with rain that day, exhausted and defeated, he suddenly remembered why he’d left home.

By the time they arrive back in England, the impact of the whole horrendous journey on their new-born baby, has taken its toll, and in a flash of inspiration, the father takes his sick infant to a convent. The nuns waste no time, the child is whisked away, and admitted to the children’s hospital. Unfortunately, she’s diagnosed with a list of difficulties, the most apparent one being, she is struggling to breathe... It takes eight months for her to recover, and in-between that time the couple still fail to find a home; they decide on another move... But first they have to wait for the baby to be released from her magic bubble, the only home she’s ever known. Shaking his box of matches through the glass, is the only way the young father gets his little girl to smile.

The second home, is a single room in a run-down Victorian house. Invasive damp, black mould, peeling wall-paper, cold, unsavory individuals, and their ever-increasing alcohol fueled violence. Then her brother is born, which put’s further stress on the young couple. Minutes turn into hours, and hours turn into days, all of which see a definite longing in the little girl to return to her magic bubble, it had been safe, quiet, and warm with smiley faces.

Her heart is sad... her brother cries a lot and causes friction between the couple. The mother doesn’t cope and the father is never there. The couple struggle, and always find something to fight about. Another baby sister is born and dies. The damp, cold, smelly room is depressing, and sad. This is their life, her life... so why didn’t they see that all she wants is a warm, safe place, with a soft clean bed, and parents who understand the basic requirements of how to love, provide, and protect.

The story doesn’t finish there... because despite her young years she is often found sitting in the soulless Victorian room, which inevitably becomes someone else’s version of home. She knows, as if from a magical sense of a long-held memory, that this isn’t so. And then, God help them, another beautiful baby sister is born, and dies.

By the time she is seven years old, with many moves to different addresses, and the powers that be, take an interest, there’s a change, a big shift.

You would have expected the biggest damage to have been done to this little girl, because what she saw wasn’t right, but it didn’t, she grew and unbelievably developed, and somehow, she instinctually knew the right way. She had visualised her own coping mechanisms to the madness, and chaos around her, and she believes that’s what saved her, as well as the unknown entity that was always present, especially in times of great stress.

Needles to say this couple didn’t hold on to their children, like so many they were taken away. And the little girl, earned the label, the little mother, the resilient one. Labels stay with you, and rightly or wrongly influence the rest of your life. The one thing I’m happy about, is that eventually I was saved. I experienced that warm bed, and having my basic needs met. The one thing I will always miss, is the love of a mother. But let me say, I have experienced being a good mother, having the love of a beautiful daughter, and gorgeous grandchildren.

Whatever you’ve been through… Don’t let it make you hard, bitter, and cynical. Thank God, when we grow up, we get to make our own lives. So be you, and don’t allow another to influence who or what you are, unless of course they are good people.

Have a great weekend!

My Father...

The big question for me this week was something I’ve been concentrating on for a little while... Although I have to profess, I don’t quite have all the answers but you know how I love to share, waffle and divulge.  Come on pull up a chair and stay a few moments, I would love to talk to you...
I use to think I was a dreamer and I suppose to some extent a lot of us might have that delightful trait securely fixed within our own wonderful personalities ... but recently oh how I've wistfully looked back on vague and distant memories of my father. It's made me wonder if a part of me is like he was. The thing I know more than anything about my dad, is that when I was little, I missed him so much... he was never around, but I will never forget the bond I had with him... When I did get to see him I recall I’d quietly watch him, and wonder what made him tick. (Due to the way I was brought up) When I did get to see him, I would usually feel a deep sense of sadness because here was my very own dad, but I didn’t really know him...  When I was small, I would sit quietly to observe him. To this day I still remember the way he'd sit in his chair, the way his blue eyes would flicker from side to side, and I’d know instinctively he was thinking... to me he was always the thinker, a mystical force that I'd fantasise about. I wanted to be near him, and have him tell me he was proud of me, that he loved me, but mostly, I wanted him to be the dad I remembered. I'd reminisce vividly how I use to believe I was able hear him think... Sad wonder is, I never actually heard/saw or understood his thoughts or the man he was.  To this day, I still wish it would be possible to sit with him, and ask all the many unanswered questions...

Parents are so terribly important in our lives, their input is massive in terms of our development, but where the hell does one go when faced with the loneliness of being brought up and living in the company of strangers... Let me tell you this... Yes I believe their absence impacted on me, and my siblings, but in the long run I’ve personally come to no harm from not having a family, despite wanting one that I would have loved deeply... Instead I had a different upbringing. In many ways I was lonely, but my past I'd describe as character forming, with a whole load of empty longing.

Despite everything, life still managed to magically instil in me many things that have become super important... The amazing thing is that I know who I am, where I came from, where I’ve been and where there is yet for me to go... I believe the past is what makes us, and I agree with all the current quotes... The past does not define, but it sure as hell has a major input into personality... I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again for the benefit of any readers who have been through the same or even similar experiences...  what happened in my childhood was NOT my fault, the people to blame are the adults who were around...The sad thing is how much they lost out, but thank god I made sure I broke the circle. My child was not beaten, neglected and neither was she abused...  why the hell would anyone do that to another? So if you’re reading this and blaming your upbringing for something you've done or are presently doing ... FORGET IT... You’re in control, you’re the adult and it’s up to you to do the right thing... All I understand is that children, life, including every single, living being are important and super precious. We don’t get this time back, so we have to do the right thing... make the right choices... No excuses... NONE!!
No matter what you’ve been through, you have to try your very best in life, don’t paint everyone with the same brush, because this will only hold you back, and might even paralyse. So come on embrace life... believe me, you’ll find what you put in, you’ll get back.  Be yourself, be real, don’t have a hidden agenda, just bring your lovely personality to life, and share unconditionally...
Life is too short to do anything else!

I really do believe in being mindful of people’s feelings and despite writing about my past, present and future... I sincerely hope others recognise I take my written words seriously... I do not wish to lay blame, hurt or accuse anyone... I simply want to write truth as I understand and perceive it. I dont know how it happened, but I've magically grown from a very dysfunctional family background. I think I can safely say because of the vast and varied different input, I have been so lucky and managed to find the real me...  And that is always worth celebrating...

Breathe... Focus... Relax...
Stay close.
